Cadiz Police warn of jury duty scam

(July 10, 2012) –  The Cadiz Police Department is asking citizens to be on the alert for a possible jury-duty scam that could compromise personal information of the target.

Trigg County Circuit Clerk Pam Perry said her office has received information from other circuit court clerks in the state about the scam.

People are receiving text messages on their phones that tell them they have failed to appear for jury duty and are given a number to call.  When the perso

n calls the number, it asks them to select from options that include paying a fine or serving jail time.

The caller may also be asked to provide their date of birth or social security number to cancel the warrant.

It is important to remember that communication between state courts and prospective jurors is conducted through the U.S. mail. If there is phone contact, legitimate court officials will not ask for Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or

 other sensitive information.

Persons should contact the Cadiz Police Department at 522-8369 if they receive a phone call they believe could be related to this scam. For information about a jury duty summons, citizens should contact Trigg County Circuit Court Pam Perry at 270-522-7070.   The office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
