Charity scam

Due to the tough economy and any one of a number of natural disasters in the news, scam artists love to exploit those willing to help others, using scams that look like worthy causes.

There are many sophisticated telemarketing fundraisers. Some only keep a reasonable fee, but many only give a small portion of the collected funds to a charity, and others may keep it all.  This type of operation is easy to establish, and they continue to grow.

The Cadiz Police Department says to never deal with telephone, e-mail, or regular mail solicitations.  Donate directly to charities you know, or have researched.

You can research charities at www.charitynavigator.org or www.give.org
